Tips for Buying the Best Business Signs for Your Business

1. Work with a Full-Service Company

If you Google “business signs”, you will be inundated with a wide selection of companies that offer this service. However, you should be aware that not all companies offer you full service.

The sign that you choose might seem like a great price, however, you should check to see if the company provides installation for your sign, or if they just deliver it to you and you have to find out a way to put it up.

Installation is not a problem if you are just ordering small desktop sized signage, but if you need a large storefront sign or banner installed, that is a different story. It is much easier to work with a full-service signage company that can professionally install your business signs for you.

2. Choose a Local Company

There are many benefits to choosing a local company. One of the main ones is that you can meet with them in person so that you can more easily discuss what you want for your business signs.

A local company can also actually visit your site to see if there are any challenges or issues that might affect the design that you want. These could include things such as municipal restrictions or features on your building like overhangs that might restrict installation or lend themselves to a different design.

A local company will be familiar with the signage bylaws in your area and will know if what you want is possible and if not they can recommend a suitable alternative.

3. Make Your Sign Easy to Read

The whole idea behind putting up business signs is so that people will be able to read it. Make sure that the design that you choose is very easy to read. If you want it read from large distances, then you need to make it big enough to be seen.

The USSC Foundation has developed a Standard Legibility Index that will help you determine how big your letters need to be for the distance that you want them be be read from. You can find the index here on page 23 of their document.

Simply look for the type of font, letter colour, background colour, and illumination that matches the font of your sign in the chart to find its legibility index. The legibility index means that for every 1 inch of your capital letter font, your sign can be ready at the corresponding number of feet away.

For example, if your sign has a legibility index of 26, then that it means that it should be legible from 26 feet away with one inch capital letters. If your capital letters are 10 inches, then your sign should be legible from 260 feet away.

Make sure your sign is large enough to read from a distance

4. Choose an Eye Catching Design

You want to make your business signs stand out and catch the attention of potential customers. Choose colours that will evoke the right kind of emotions ofrfeelings.

For example red and yellows are good choices for fast food restaurants as they tend to excite and make people feel hungry while blue is a good colour for a bank or other financial institution as it evokes a feeling of tradition and trust.

Adding images or logos can also make your sign more attractive and they will also help to tell what your business is about and help to promote your brand.

5. Use Quality Materials

Business signs can be a rather significant investment so it is a good idea to choose a company that will make your sign from high quality materials that will last.

Better quality materials will also make your sign look better and portray a more professional image for your business.

Types of Business Signs Available

Pylon Signs:

Pylon signs are freestanding signs that are built right into the ground and usually located away from your building, near the street. They have a visible support structure to keep them secured.

Most pylon signs are at least 12 feet high, with some much higher, and they come in a wide variety of widths.

Monument Signs:

Monument signs are very similar to pylon signs except but they are not as high. A monument sign is usually no taller than about five feet tall. Its purpose is to display your message at eye level.

Banners:

Banners are an effective short-term form of signage that can be used to announce upcoming events, such as grand openings or trade shows. They are usually very big and eye-catching and can be used both indoors and outdoors.

Window Lettering and Graphics:

Window lettering and graphics are a great form of advertising that can complement and supplement your main signage on the outside of your building.

This type of signage is a great way to make the most of your window space. It can even keep your facility cooler in the summertime, as it will quite effectively block sunlight from your windows.

Vehicle Graphics:

Vehicle graphics are an effective form of mobile advertising that can range from simply having your business name on the side of your vehicle, to an extremely eye-catching graphic that takes up a large portion of the body complete with contact information and slogans.

As your vehicle travels around, you can reach a wide audience and educate them about your business and your product.

Interior Business Signs:

You can choose from a wide variety of interior sign options for your business.

From small office signs to large murals and prints, wayfinding signs to directories, reception signs to social distancing signs, interior signs are an excellent way to add colour to your business, and ensure customers know exactly who you are!
